Entrance Fee Exemption and Tuition Waiver

Undergraduate and graduate students who face financial difficulties and who demonstrate excellent academic records may be exempt from part or all of the tuition payments.
The tuition exemption system, however, is not available for non-degree research students and credited auditors.
For further details, please inquire at the Division of Student Welfare, Department of Student
Affairs (Financial Support), which is located on the 3rd floor of the Student Plaza or your Academic Service Office (Registrar and Student Support).

For Those Wishing to Apply for Entrance Fee Exemption or Deferment

If you wish to apply for exemption or deferment of the entrance fee, please carefully read the following notices before applying via the online enrollment system.

After applying online, please download and print the necessary application forms listed below. Fill them out, attach all required documents, and submit them together with your enrollment documents.

Eligibility

Please note that different application requirements will be applied to students joining undergraduate courses and graduate courses.


Undergraduate Students

  • Those recognized as having difficulty in paying the entrance fee due to the death of the person primarily responsible for the payment within the past one year prior to admission, or due to damage sustained by the student or the person responsible for the payment of entrance fee caused by wind, flood or other natural disasters.

  • Those recognized by the university president as having reasons similar to the ones above, in line with the university rules.

Japanese students (including those with residential status such as "Permanent Resident" and their spouses) who are prospective or intended applicants for the JASSO Scholarship, also known as the New Financial Support System for Higher Education (高等教育の修学支援新制度), should click [this link] (in Japanese only).(Recipients of this scholarship are eligible for entrance fee exemption.)


Note: The above mentioned are eligibility requirements for applying for entrance fee exemption.
Students who have difficulty in paying entrance fee due to economic reasons prior to the deadline and are recognized as having outstanding academic capabilities are eligible for deferred payment of entrance fee.

Graduate Students

  • Those recognized as having difficulty in paying entrance fee due to economic reasons prior to the deadline and are recognized as having outstanding academic capabilities.

  • Those recognized as having difficulty in paying the entrance fee due to the death of the person primarily responsible for the payment within the past one year prior to admission, or due to damage sustained by the student or the person responsible for the payment of entrance fee caused by wind, flood or other natural disasters.

  • Those recognized by the university president as having reasons similar to the ones above, in line with the university rules.


Note: Students who fall under one of the above 1-3 categories are eligible for applying for entrance fee exemption or deferred payment.


Students who are denied entrance fee exemption or received a waiver of only half the tuition fee can apply for deferred payment.

Please check the following notice and submit your application according to the method designated by the Academic Service Office to which you belong. Also, if you apply by mail, since it contains personal information, please send it by registered mail or Letter Pack, etc., which can be tracked.
